Garrett C. Gray is a trial and appellate attorney at Howry Breen & Herman, LLP, where he represents individuals and families seeking accountability and full compensation after serious injury and loss, as well as parties in complex commercial disputes. His practice spans every stage of a case — from discovery and dispositive motions, through trial, to appeals and original proceedings in state and federal appellate courts.
Garrett has experience arguing before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of Texas. He has briefed and won cases in state and federal courts of appeals, securing emergency and temporary relief along the way. At the trial-court level, he briefs and argues dispositive motions on complex legal issues, building the record and framing the arguments that position a case to prevail on appeal.
Most recently, Garrett served as a Gregory S. Coleman Fellow in the Texas Office of the Solicitor General, where he handled a variety of appellate matters and helped brief high-profile constitutional cases in state and federal courts of appeals. He previously clerked at the Supreme Court of Texas for Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht and Justice James P. Sullivan. Before clerking and serving as a Coleman Fellow, he represented clients in trial and appellate courts at a commercial litigation firm in Houston.
Garrett earned his J.D. cum laude from South Texas College of Law Houston, home to one of the nation's top advocacy programs, where he distinguished himself as an advocate — earning induction into the Order of Barristers, serving as co-chair of the Board of Advocates, and winning the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section's Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy, among other oralist and brief-writing honors. He now gives back to that program as an adjunct professor, coaching its advocacy teams. He holds a B.A. in economics, cum laude, from the University of Mississippi, and previously played Division I and junior college baseball.
Outside the office, Garrett enjoys spending time with his wife, Courtney, and their friends and family, attending the Well Austin Community Church, and playing golf and cooking.
