The South Texas College of Law Alumni Association honored Randy R. Howry as the 2009 Distinguished Alumnus at a luncheon on October 5, 2009. The Alumni Association honors one graduate each year for their service to the college, the profession, and the community. Howry is a partner in the Austin litigation firm of HowryBreen LLP where he handles commercial and employment litigation, insurance and medical malpractice cases, and wrongful death, wills and trust, and real estate litigation. Howry serves on the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors and is a director of the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is the president-elect of the West Austin Youth Association, and is a former president of the Austin Bar Association. Howry was the featured speaker at the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting October 5.

Tim Herman, senior partner of Herman Howry Breen, LLP, was selected for the prestigious Distinguished Lawyer Award for 2006 by the Austin Bar Association. He was recognized for his outstanding commitment to the legal profession and to the community. This award is presented to a lawyer who has practiced for 30 years or more and has significantly contributed to the profession and the community. Herman’s experience includes representing clients on oil and gas royalty issues, professional contract disputes, lease claims, corporate liability of officers and directors, professional negligence in corporate matters, and shareholder claims and disputes. Add to this an impressive client list including Capital Sports and Entertainment, Austin City Limits and Lance Armstrong, and you’ve got a man who is most definitely worthy of praise as a distinguished lawyer. Aside from his work as an attorney, Tim has given back to the community in many ways, including fulfilling the role of basketball coach for St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and West Austin Youth Association. He has worked with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Helping Hand of Austin and Volunteer Legal Services.

Austin attorney Randy Howry assumes the role of president of the Austin Bar Association, effective July 1, 2005. Randy Howry is a partner in the law firm, Herman Howry Breen L.L.P. The Austin Bar Association includes in its membership more than 3,700 local attorneys in 21 different legal specialties. “Randy has been active in the Austin Bar for several years. His commitment to the Austin legal community, as well as to the community at large, is evident in the many programs he has initiated and participated in throughout the years,” said Delaine Ward, executive director, Austin Bar Association. In addition to his many years of service to the Austin Bar Association, Mr. Howry is a Senior Founding Fellow of the Austin Bar Association Foundation. He also has been selected for membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Austin chapter of ABOTA. Mr. Howry holds Board Certifications in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the College of the State Bar, a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a member of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics Professionalism and a member of District 9A Grievance Committee of the State Bar of Texas. He also is active in many civic and charitable organizations.
